Vending Machine Snacks: Nutrition Labels, Trans Fats, High Fructose Corn Syrup And Healthy Snacks

Vending machine snacks have become a staple in the diets of many people. As eating has become something done on the run, vending machine snacks have become increasingly popular for their easy accessibility, convenience, and price. Reading over the nutrition labels of many vending machine snacks, however, should leave most snack junkies searching for a better source of nutrition.
Although vending machine snacks seem an easy answer for fast paced days where time is of the essence, most vending machine snacks make up for their convenience with costly side effects. Most lack many of the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and proteins required for healthy nutrition. Instead they are packed with high levels of cholesterol and sodium as well as high levels of trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. These ingredients eaten sparsely may be okay, but when eaten moderately or as the cornerstone of an individuals nutrition, is detrimental to one's health.
Of course the tide has started to turn on the unhealthy foods found in many vending machines. Growing concerns have surrounded the nutrition value of vending machine snacks in the face of rising obesity rates, rising heart disease rates, rising cancer rates and rising instances of diabetes Due to the outcries of critics of the junk food that comprises the majority of snacks offered in vending machines, and at a time where healthier options such as salads are being offered alongside greasy hamburgers in national fast food restaurants, alternatives such as healthy snacks are being included in vending machines.
Vending machine snacks that once featured almost exclusively high fructose corn syrup beverages such as colas, are now being replaced with healthy snacks such as juice, tea and water. Snacks like the greasy fried offerings of the junk food industries have been replaced with baked versions as well as healthy snacks like pretzels, animal crackers, and fruit bars. Other alternatives to traditional vending machine snacks include healthy snacks like peanuts, almonds, and even sunflower seeds. Glancing at the nutrition labels of healthy snacks like nuts, seeds and fruit bars provide valuable minerals, vitamins and other nutrients absent from the last generation of vending machine snacks.
