A Guide To Healthy Eating

A quickly building billion dollar industry has taken residence in a place no one previously thought you could make money: your health.
It has been instilled in us since we were kids, eating right improves your health. However, some people just have no clue what healthy eating is. Even with the creation of the food pyramid, there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to get all the vitamins through your food that you need.
As a result, Americans are far more likely to pay for a better body than work for it. Caring about the way we look fell into fad diets and the newest exercise to make your butt trim. America is the unhealthiest country on the planet and yet the weight loss industry makes a killing here. But, ask any doctor or nutritionist the best way to lose weight and get more energy and they all begin with the same advice: healthy eating.
Don't get healthy eating confused with dieting. When you begin a diet, even though you have no intentions of stopping, it happens. This causes fluctuation between sizes and your mentality doesn't have time to recover. Therefore, your energy is at stake and you find yourself more dependent on feeling better more than ever.
Instead of calling healthy eating a diet, try approaching it as a lifestyle change. Because people are so used to routine, changing your lifestyle to revolve around healthy eating shouldn't be too difficult. If it is too difficult, perhaps you need to reevaluate your lifestyle.
The next time you go grocery shopping, don't be afraid to spend some time down the veggie and fruits isles. The food pyramid recommends at least three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit a day. This can sneak into your routine through the snacks you eat throughout the day. An apple is just as good as a bag of fat free chips, and it's an energy source that lasts longer.
The best way to start is to aim for three square meals a day. If you have a 9 to 5 schedule, wake up just an hour earlier to enjoy a cup of your own homemade coffee, make breakfast and maybe do a little stretching. Before you jump in the shower, drink half a glass of water and the other half when you come out. (This is a great way to get your six to eight glasses a day!)
My personal favorite breakfast is an omelet loaded with veggies (brown eggs only because of their high protein content; chopped peppers, mushrooms and onions) a half cup of orange juice, and a slice of wheat toast.
On your way out, grab a bottle of water and your favorite kind of nuts. Nuts are high in protein and they jump start your metabolism, giving you energy and helping you lose weight. Somewhere between your next cup of coffee and your lunch break, don't forget to drink and fill up that bottle of water at least once. For the first couple weeks you may be spending a lot of time in the bathroom but that's because your body has to get reused to being completely hydrated.
On your lunch break, a half soup, half sandwich kind of deal will get you through. (Sneak in another half bottle of water.) A turkey, cheese, lettuce, and tomato sandwich with light mayo and broccoli cheddar soup covers four main food groups and gets you through about half of your healthy eating regimen (after even more water, of course.)
As your shift ends, some carrot and celery sticks will give you just enough energy to make it to your car and drive home. It's essential once again to finish that bottle of water which is easy to do when you're stuck in afternoon traffic. Once home, treat yourself to a healthy dinner. Poultry is recommended for 2 out of seven days a week but fish is always the best choice. Of course, a veggie and side is necessary but this can be switched up with casseroles or even your favorite dishes like lasagna (substituting the layers of pasta with some vegetables as an alternative). Before you begin your meal, drink some more water. This will help you feel full faster and process the food better.
Before you know it, healthy eating will become a part of your lifestyle faster than any diet. You can be far more flexible and creative with it because of the array of foods available. Ultimately, healthy eating is the fastest and easiest way to lose weight and feel better. Just through what you eat, you'll realize your lifestyle has become less hectic, and your body will thank you by giving you more energy. The best part about it: healthy eating just tastes great!
